How Can You Use a Professional Organizer in Your Life

A lot of people think that you can only use a Professional Organizer to organize your kitchen or garage.

I love kitchens and pantries - my favorite! But there are so many more ways that you can use the services of a Professional Organizer!

Besides helping you organize all areas of your home or office, a Professional Organizer can help you declutter and organize your home as you age. As we get older our lives change. Kids grow up and move out. You will probably not be hosting big dinners anymore - so the need for a lot of the things that you used to use - is no longer there. Rearranging your kitchen so that the things that you use are at a lower level so that you don't have to reach, is also a good idea as you age.

Most people wait until they are a lot older (70 - 80's) to start downsizing, purging, decluttering. And that is too late. People don't realize how long the process actually takes. They also don't realize the emotions that come with purging your stuff. a lifetime of memories - and they all tend to come flooding back when you start the purging process. And the number one thing that I hear kids say most often to their family is "we don't want that stuff and we will throw it out after you die". A devastating thing for a parent to hear. Because everyone thinks that their stuff is valuable and everyone should care about it. But it's not - and they don't. A hard truth to hear.

Start the organizing and purging process earlier so that your kids don't have to be traumatized and stressed out by going through your belongings. They will thank you for it!

***

If you wanted to downsize to a smaller home, an Organizer can help you purge and downsize, decide what will fit into your new home, and help you unpack and set up your new home so that you can walk in and be settled in a short period of time. Wouldn't it be great to be able to find all of your things the day after your move - instead of looking at boxes for weeks?

 ***

Another way that a Professional Organizer can help you is by sorting, purging and organizing a home or estate after a parent dies. The amount of paperwork alone is overwhelming. If you can find it that is! Most people do not realize the amount of time it takes to find and gather up all of the documents that are needed in dividing an estate. Getting all of the financial paperwork together is a daunting task. Clearing out their clothes is really hard and very emotional. Finding places to donate items, taking them to donation sites or arranging for pick up of items is something that an Organizer can help you with.

Getting through the process is not easy, but a Professional Organizer can make the entire process more efficient and less stressful.

***

Besides physical organization - a Professional Organizer can also help you organize your schedule and your life! Time Management is one of the most important things in our life - yet it's something that is usually overlooked.

By working with a Professional Organizer on time management and scheduling - you can eliminate a lot of stress!

Feel free to reach out with any questions on more ways that a Professional Organizer can make your home and life run smoother!

Happy Organizing!

Estate Division - A Stress Free Way to Divide Assets with No Hassle

Organizing your life includes organizing your assets so that your family knows what you want done should anything happen to you.

A lot of people think that only old people should have a will and think about the future. That is the furthest thing from the truth! Being prepared for anything that life might throw at you is a gift that you can give your family. At a time of crisis a lot of people make decisions based on emotion instead of logic. Make your important decisions before a crisis so that the decisions you make are in your best interest.

One way to do this is to make a list of all of your assets. If you want to give something to a family member, make sure that they really want it. If not, pick another person that you want to give it to. Don't burden your family with things that they don't really want.

Divide your assets without dividing your family.

There are numerous ways to divide your assets so that it's fair and equitable. With a little bit of planning  you can avoid a lot of issues in the future.

Planning for your Future - Be Proactive Not Reactive

Being organized is not only about your closet or pantry. It's about your life. Unfortunately, a lot of people leave things to "chance".  By not planning for your future you are being reactive - instead of proactive.

When something happens - such as an accident or illness - are you prepared to deal with all of the things that you will need to deal with? Do you have things in place so that your life will carry on as normal (as can be)?

If you were in the hospital (for example) - would your rent and all of your bills still get paid on time? Do you have quick access to a list of all of the people that you would need to contact to keep things going?

Would those people know where you keep your information so that they could help you? Would they know what you wanted them to do?

You might have a filing system in place - but think about the time it would take to go through everything and find all of the information that you needed.

There are a number of options that might make things easier when you are in a crisis and not able to think clearly.

Having all of your information in one easily accessible place is "being proactive".

Planning for your future - having a list of goals is "being proactive".

Having all of your legal and financial documents in place is "being proactive".

Not sticking your head in the sand and saying "I have time to ...." is "being proactive".

Planning for emergencies and life's challenges is "being proactive".

So start thinking about the future - and plan ..... for whatever might come your way.

Organizing Your Life - Organizing Your Estate

As we start 2017 and start making our New Years resolutions why don't you make a resolution to get your life organized!  Do something for your family and yourself.

No - I am not talking about organizing your closet (though I do love that topic!). I am talking about organizing your life. I am talking about organizing all of your important papers and your not so important papers.

Yes - you should have a will and a living will. Everyone should have one. It's not just for "old" people. If you have a family or any possessions you need to protect yourself. Let your fingers do the walking and find an attorney to help you will all of those important details.

But - even more importantly there are those hundreds of details that seem to fall through the cracks for most people.

Do you know where all of your important documents are?  Does your spouse or partner know where they are?

Do you have a readily available list of all of your financial accounts?  Do you have the contact information for your financial advisors, bankers, lawyer and other people - all in one easy to grab piece of paper (or computer file)?

Do you have a list of all of your assets?

Do you have a list of all of your insurance providers? Health, vehicle, life, homeowners....?

Do you have a list of all of your health care providers and your medical information?

Do you have a list of ..... anything?

What would happen in an emergency if you were not able to tell your spouse/partner where you put all of this information. Panic would set in. Everyone would be scrambling looking all over the house to find it. And in the case of the death of a loved one the extra stress would be overwhelming.

Take a few hours and organize your life - for the sake of your family.

A great resource on organizing your life and organizing your estate is JEANNE K. SMITH  - owner of EXIT STAGE RIGHT, LLC.  Jeanne is a Professional Organizer, Speaker and Author. She is a Pioneer of Estate Organization.

A Professional Organizer can help you gather all of your documents and put it together in an easy to follow format that you can grab and go in an emergency. Everything at your fingertips.

As a Professional Organizer I have worked with Executors to help them clear out a family members estate, find vital documents, pack up and send personal items to other family members, work with realtors, landscapers, auction houses and donation centers to clear out a house and get it ready to be sold. A Professional Organizer wears many hats!
