Washing your floors, vacuuming, scrubbing your toilets, laundry...the list goes on and on.

For some people - they spend an entire day cleaning, purging, decluttering, organizing.....

It's time to revolt! I don't want to spend my entire Saturday scubbing toilets or doing laundry! I want to play outside - hike, garden, read magazines, watch movies, call friends..... do anything except waste a beautiful day off being stuck doing housework!

So what's the answer - well -"break it up"! There is no "rule" that you have to clean your house on a Saturday (or your day off). You can do it whenever you want to - really!

Think about how long each task takes and work it into your week - 15 or 20 minutes every day is something that everyone can do (yes - you do have that time available).

Throw a load of laundry in when you come home from work and it will be done after dinner (you are not watching the washing machine - so don't say it takes too long). You can fold the clothes the next day if you want.

Vacuum one day after dinner. Dust another day. Wash your kitchen floor another day. Clean the bathroom another day.

Each task only takes a few minutes (probably under 30 minutes). So break your cleaning into inidividual tasks and schedule one each day. That way you aren't spending an entire day cleaning your home and complaining that you would rather be doing something else. We all would (let's be honest!).

By being creative and working the things that we have to do into our day when it suits us - we can still accomplish everything we need to - but it won't seem like just a big task.

Happy House Cleaning!

Less Clutter = Less Stress SM in your home, your business and your life

Organizational Consulting Services

http://www.organizationalconsultingservices.com
.

Visit our Life & Business Coaching website: North By Northwest
*** check out the Products tab for self-paced workshops, planners and more....

ProfessionalOrganizerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684273623662923765noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888965899579431958.post-25146298564228099052024-03-04T00:00:00.000-08:002024-03-04T00:00:00.240-08:00Your "To Do" List is Overwhelming
Getting things done requires organization. You need a goal and a plan for completing your "task".

Even things as simple as "grocery shopping" or "picking up painting supplies so that you can paint your living room" are tasks that should be scheduled - so that they actually happen. Making a list of what you need to get done each day helps you stay on track and makes sure that you don't forget something important.

In our busy lives - sometimes we just forget things! It happens.....

Having a "To Do" list is great - BUT - for a lot of people - it's ovewhelming. And there is a difference between a "Daily To Do" list and a "running To Do" list.

A lot of people (especially homeowners) have some type of a running list of things that they need to get done - to fix - to buy - to pick up - to drop off ..... And that list can be very, very long. It's basically a "brain dump" of anything and everything that they want to (or think they want to) accomplish. The list can be pages and pages long. Some people call it a "honey do" list.

The problem of overwhelm comes in when someone looks at that list and thinks that they have to get everything done in one day - or be labeled as a "failure". If you have 10 things on your list and you only accomplish 2 or 3 items on your list - you are a "failure" - according to your psyche.

A "Daily To Do" list should only contain a few (3 - 5) items. They should be things that you can realistically accomplish in your day. If you accomplish 3 out of 5 items - then you can consider it a success. But if you had 10 items on your list - only accomplishing 3 items would have been considered a failure.

You want to set yourself up for success - by being realistic in what you can accomplish given your time constraints.

Each day (either the first thing in the morning or the previous night) - you want to take a look at your "running to do" list - and pick a few items to put on your "daily to do" list.

Set yourself up for success - keep your daily list short and your overwhelm under control.

Less Clutter = Less Stress SM in your home, your business and your life

Organizational Consulting Services

http://www.organizationalconsultingservices.com
.

Visit our Life & Business Coaching website: North By Northwest
*** check out the Products tab for self-paced workshops, planners and more....

ProfessionalOrganizerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684273623662923765noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888965899579431958.post-80595302407697938222024-02-25T12:54:00.000-08:002024-02-25T12:54:00.138-08:00It's Time to Declutter Your Bathroom
Decluttering - room by room...

When was the last time that you declcuttered your bathroom?

How old is that makeup?

How many creams and lotions do you really need?

A place that is seldom decluttered and organized is the bathroom. And it usually has a lot of "stuff" crammed into the drawers and cabinets.

Makeup and lotions expire - beleive it or not! It is a good idea to put a date on your makeup and lotions so that you know how long you have had them.

Start with one drawer at a time and take everything out. Wipe out the drawer - it usually will have a lot of make-up dust in it. If you have dividers in the drawer - wipe those out also. Then take out each item and ask yourself when you actually used it last. Is it empty? Is it almost empty? Do you really like the item?

A lot of people buy makeup in a variety of colors - and then decide they really don't like the shade - but it never leaves the drawer! If you don't like it or are not using it - get rid of it!

If it's old - get rid of it. You don't want to take a chance of getting an infection by using make up that is old or has been contaminated.

If you don't have drawer dividers in your drawers - get some! They are really helpful in separating your makeup, lotions, brushes, hair clips.... It's much easier to find things when they are all together in one group. Also - you will probably use the items more if you can actually find them in the drawer - instead of having to dig through a pile of "stuff".

Medicines expire - check all of the medicines - including such things as cough and cold medicines, antacids, pain relievers, sun screen, antibiotic ointment, antiseptic cream, laxatives..... and anything else in your medicine cabinet - for expiration dates. If it's expired - throw it out!

Make it a habit to declutter your bathroom at least a couple of times a year. It's much easier to maintain a space then to constantly have to take everything out and start from the beginning.

Happy Decluttering!

Less Clutter = Less Stress SM in your home, your business and your life

Organizational Consulting Services

http://www.organizationalconsultingservices.com
.

Visit our Life & Business Coaching website: North By Northwest
*** check out the Products tab for self-paced workshops, planners and more....

ProfessionalOrganizerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684273623662923765noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888965899579431958.post-68665214792494310572024-02-16T12:10:00.000-08:002024-02-16T12:10:01.832-08:00Declutter Your Kitchen
Decluttering and Organizing is not a "one and done" process. It's a "continuing process". As we age - so do our "things".

Each room of your home should be decluttered and organized on a regular basis.

Today we'll talk about the kitchen.

We all know that there is a drawer in your kitchen that has tupperware without lids. Not sure where those lids disappeared to - but they are gone! You probably have tupperware that is cracked and badly stained (and doesn't look good). It's time to purge those old, beat up, lidless containers!

What about old chipped glasses or dishes? They should probably be thrown out (they are not safe to use).

Then there are those old pots and pans with the non-stick surface that is all scratched up and coming off. These can release toxic compounds into your food - so into the garbage they go!

We are making progress - so keep on going!

Let's look in your cupboards - are there any small appliances that you never or rarely use? Yes - you probably had good intentions when you bought them - but if you aren't using them (making fancy drinks or chopping things into cute designs....) give them away - donate them - purge them. They are taking up valuable real estate in your kitchen.

Next, check out your spices. Are they old and expired? If so, toss them.

Next - the freezer and refrigerator...... you probably have food (or a science experiment - because you have no idea what it actually is - because you didn't label and date it) that is expired. Toss it out!

Make it a habit to label all of your food (in containers or in the freezer) - with the contents and date.

You have just gained valuable space in your cupboards and refrigerator and freezer!

Make it a habit to go through your kitchen on a regular basis - at least a couple of times a year - to clear things that are broken, missing parts, not used or expired.

Well - that was a good days work! Keep it up!

Less Clutter = Less Stress SM in your home, your business and your life

Organizational Consulting Services

http://www.organizationalconsultingservices.com
.

Visit our Life & Business Coaching website: North By Northwest
*** check out the Products tab for self-paced workshops, planners and more....

ProfessionalOrganizerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684273623662923765noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888965899579431958.post-38683171246108392032024-02-04T03:00:00.000-08:002024-02-04T03:00:00.147-08:00Did You Make New Years Resolutions? How to be Successful...
We are now in our 2nd month of 2024. Have you already thrown out your New Years Resolutions?
At the beginning of every year a lot of people "resolve" to start or stop some new or old habits. By February - everything is forgotten.

Why is that?

Maybe it's because the goals we set were unrealistic. We have great intentions but we tend to bite off more than we can chew. Instead of saying (for example) that we are going to lose 50 pounds six months (which could be unrealistic) - we should plan on changing our lifestyle and eating healthier.

Another reason that people can't meet their goals is that most people need an accountability partner and without one - they will not be successful.

Having goals means making a plan. Making a plan means Time Management. Without time management people tend to get off track. And once people are off track - it's hard to get back on track. Time Management is an important component in being successful in life.

When all of these things don't fall into place - people tend to give up. And there goes your New Years Resolution.

Being organized in your life means having a goal, then having a plan to meet your goal. Then breaking it down into manageable pieces. Putting those pieces into your calendar and managing your schedule and your time.

And most important of all - having an accountability partner to keep you on track.

Be successful in life by being realistic about what you can accomplish. If you need help - ask for it. Successful people surround themselves with knowledge and are willing to ask for help from people that have more experience then they do.

If you need help in figuring out to make your goals a reality, or you have problems managing your time or paperwork - reach out to a Professional Organizer who can help get and keep you on track!

Less Clutter = Less Stress SM in your home, your business and your life

Organizational Consulting Services

http://www.organizationalconsultingservices.com
.

Visit our Life & Business Coaching website: North By Northwest
*** check out the Products tab for self-paced workshops, planners and more....

ProfessionalOrganizerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684273623662923765noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888965899579431958.post-40702071788623499192024-01-25T11:42:00.000-08:002024-01-25T11:42:25.011-08:00Decisions to be Made Before You Organize
When some people decide that they want to organize their home - they just start "organizing". They go out and buy some bins and baskets and put random things into these bins without having made some very important decisions.

Such as:

What am I trying to accomplish?

Do I have a specific place for this item to go?

Do I really want or need this item?

Do I have room for this item?

Is this item in good shape - or does it work or fit?

And one very important question that not a lot of people think about ---

What is the intended use of this room?

You don't start the "organizing process" by organizing - you start the process by decluttering first!

Start by picking up any trash (wrappers or other things thrown on the floor or left out instead of in the garbage).

Next - do a quick pick up of things that don't belong in the room and remove them from the room (anything on a kitchen island or dining room table that doesn't belong there).

Doing these two things will make a huge difference immediately.

But - then you need to take a step back and decide what it is that you actually want to accomplish. And you also need to decide what you want each room to function as.

Do you want the living room to be a room where the family watches TV or they play games or the kids do their homework?

Does your bedroom also need to function as your "office" (since a lot of people might still work from home)?

Do you want your kitchen to also be the place that the kids do their homework or that you use as your "office"?

Is your entryway closet going to be used as a coat closet or as a toy cabinet? It's your home - you get to decide how each room and each space will be used.

Once you decide how each room and each space will be used - then you need to start the planning process. Unfotunately, this is the step that most people skip over. Take your time and come up with a list of things that you migth need to make your project a success. This will save you time so that you aren't constantly running to the store or to different rooms to get something that you need. Get everything in place before you start.

Then you need to step back and really think decide if the way you set up the room (or space) is really working for you. If not - you need to figure out why. Move things to other areas or drawers. Consolidate all like items in one place. Whatever it takes to make it function better for you.

Start the organizing process by making these decisions before you start doing any organizing!

Good Luck and Happy Organizing!

Less Clutter = Less Stress SM in your home, your business and your life

Organizational Consulting Services

http://www.organizationalconsultingservices.com
.

Visit our Life & Business Coaching website: North By Northwest
*** check out the Products tab for self-paced workshops, planners and more....
ProfessionalOrganizerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684273623662923765noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888965899579431958.post-58206952159881402942024-01-07T03:00:00.000-08:002024-03-01T12:05:56.826-08:00Setting Yourself up for Success - Not Failure!
It's a new year and everyone wants to get Organized! That's great! But where should you start?

The answer is simple: start with what bothers you the most! There is no right or wrong answer. If an area of your home bothers you - fix it!

Most people don't start an organizing project until things get so bad that they can't stand it any lonoger - and then they go overboard!

They want to do a "whole house" organizing without really thinking about what exactly that entails - and being realistic on how long it takes. They jump right in - without planning anything. Because planning things involves time - and they want to get started right away - while they are "in the mood".

And things don't go smoothly..... because they didn't take into account how long it really takes and they only have the weekend to complete the project, what supplies they need, or that they need a lot of extra help with things.

If you want to be successful - you have to have a plan. A realistic plan (based on your abilities) that also includes a realistic time line. Most people underestimate the time it takes to do anything. For example - if you want to organize your kitchen pantry - you have to first take everying out of your pantry, then decide if any of the food is expired and throw that out - or if you actually use or like any of the things in your pantry and then decide if you want to keep it. Here we go again - making a lot of decisions - which all take time.

Once you've narrowed down what to keep and what to purge - you have to decide where it goes. Does where you had it make sense? Is it really conveneient? If not - where should it go? Does your pantry really make the best use of the space?

Lots of things to think about.... And now you are out of time and everything is laying out all over the kitchen and you have to get to an appointment.

Being realistic about how long things take (it's different for everyone), what tools and supplies you need, and your ability - is really crucial to your success.

Set yourself up for success - by having realistic expectations. Time Management is crucial.

Instead of saying that you are going to do a "whole house organziing" this weekend - break it down into smaller projects. Start with one room or one corner of the room. Complete your organizing project and celebrate your success! Then on to the next smaller project. Eventually - you will have completed your "whole house organizing".

Set yourself up for SUCCESS - not FAILURE!

Keep on Organizing......

Less Clutter = Less Stress SM in your home, your business and your life

Organizational Consulting Services

http://www.organizationalconsultingservices.com
.

Visit our Life & Business Coaching website: North By Northwest
*** check out the Products tab for self-paced workshops, planners and more....

ProfessionalOrganizerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684273623662923765noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888965899579431958.post-6999456758512572472024-01-01T00:00:00.000-08:002024-01-01T00:00:00.150-08:00Get Organized this GO Month!
January is Get Organized & Be

such as W9’s, investment account information, as well as any spreadsheets with
donation or medical expense information or anything else that you usually give
to your accountant. By having a spreadsheet (or list) – you won’t forget to
include things and you will know at a glance what documents you are still
waiting for.

No matter how much we think we are prepared - sometimes we have no control over things.

Hurricanes, earthquakes, fires....and more - can change your life in a split second.

If something happens and destroys your home - and all of your possessions - are you prepared to tell the insurance company exactly what you have in your home and what the value is? Are you insured for the right amount?

Insurance companies will want/need proof of what was in your home and it's value. Do you remember every single thing that you owned? Do you have actual documentation or pictures of any of your belongings?

When you are in the middle of a tragedy you probably aren't thinking about the actual value of your loss. It's not until weeks later that things sink in.

If you lost your home to a hurricane, earthquake or fire (or anything else) - do you have the money to rebuild? Are you sure that the insurance company is going to give you fair compensation for what you have lost?

One way to be prepared - for any emergency - is to have an accurate record of everything in your home.

An easy way to do this is to use a system that was designed specifically for this purpose.

Pinventory is an application that is easy to use and can take an inventory of your home or business - just in case.

What exactly is Pinventory?

An inventory is a visual catalog of your physical property, digital items and critical documents that are financially, sentimentally, and legally valuable to you, your family, and your business.

With increased weather activity and incidences of theft, inventories are becoming more and more important as a way to prove what you own, should you ever have to file a claim, and is equally important to be able to do proper insurance and estate planning.

Pinventory® Home & Business is a secure, web-based platform with a companion mobile app that makes creating any type of inventory a breeze. You can then log onto the platform and add values, stories, and lots of other information, attach receipts and appraisals, designate who should ultimately get the item, and print out box labels and professional looking reports of all kinds, including insurance claim reports, exporting them to PDF, Word, Excel and many other formats. There are sales everywhere. The stores are trying to entice you with lots of new gadgets and lots of shiny things. We just have to have the lastest and greatest. We have to keep up!

We have been inundated with ads. Sometimes multiple times a day by some companies.

Will you be able to resist or will you succumb to the holiday pressure to buy as much possible. Because we all know that the more presents you buy someone - the more you love them!

And after everyone unwraps all the presents and the wrapping paper is thrown away - their interests in the item is short-lived.

Don't get me wrong. I like to receive presents (sometimes). If it's something that is meaningful to me - and not only the gift giver. A lot of people tend to buy gifts that they think are nice (or would want themselves) - instead of giving a gift that is really meaningful to the person who would be receiving the gift.

Some people don't know their friends as well as they think they do!

So take a step back and really ask yourself a couple of questions before buying that gift:

Have you seen the person use or ask for (insert gift idea)?

Will this be something that the person has to display in their home and is there room for it?

Will you be offended if the person doesn't display the gift you thought would "fit in perfectly"?

Will you be offended if the person doesn't wear the gift you bought them (because it's really not their style)?

Are you buying a gift - any old gift - just to have something to give them - even though you don't know what to get them and don't want to go empty handed?

Gift giving is an art! You want to show people that you care about them - but forcing them to wear something or display something that does not fit into their own style - is setting them up to feel bad because they don't want to hurt your feelings.

Take a step back and really listen to their likes, wants and dreams. It's not how much you give or the size of the gift that matters. It's that you really paid attention to them.

Don't clutter up someone else's house with your ideas of "the perfect (insert item)".

So what are some ideas that might not clutter up someone else's home?

An invitiation to lunch or dinner to catch up on their life

An invitation to a play that they've wanted to see

A gift certificate to the spa for a massage (my favorite!) or getting their nails done (if they do this)

A donation in their name to a charity that they support

A gift certificate to a class that they have been talking about

A gift basket of things that they like but would not buy for themselves (spa items, fruit or chocolate ...)

A gift certificate for a car wash (a great gift to get the dirt & snow off their car)

A gift certificate to the movies (with popcorn of course)

A gift certificate for free babysitting so that they can go out and do whatever they want

There are a lot of ideas that don't leave clutter in your home. I'm sure that you can come up with some more!

Happy Holidays!

Less Clutter = Less Stress SM in your home, your business and your life

Organizational Consulting Services

http://www.organizationalconsultingservices.com
.

Visit our Life & Business Coaching website: North By Northwest
*** check out the Products tab for self-paced workshops, planners and more....

ProfessionalOrganizerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684273623662923765noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888965899579431958.post-52552732105561310552023-10-29T00:00:00.001-07:002023-12-12T14:08:02.681-08:00 Hoarding – Everyone’s Concern
Hoarding is a complex mental health issue. If it was easy - everyone would be doing it - all the time! It takes being in the right mindset and setting aside enough time to actually get anything done.

People make the mistake of thinking that it will be easy and will only take an hour. Even if you are in the right frame of mind - or think you are - you will come across something that has a "story" - something that you will be emotionally attached to. And then time stands still. And you start going down memory lane.

Before you start your decluttering project - have a list of questions that you can ask yourself - about what you will and won't get rid of. That way, when you run across an object that you might have a question about - you already have the answer.

So what are some mistakes that clients make when it comes to decluttering?

1) Hiding the clutter. You know who you are! You are having company come over any minute and you haven't finished cleaning up - so you just shove everything into a closet. And then you forget about it and it never comes out and gets put away.

2) Decluttering other peoples stuff. Don't! It's a big mistake. Only declutter stuff that is actually yours - or ask the other person (whose stuff it is...) if they are willing to get rid of it. Never throw out someone else's stuff. World War III could erupt!

3) Decluttering - but the stuff never leaves the house! I encourage my clients to keep a continuous "donate" box in their home - if they are able to leave the stuff in the box and when it's full, actually take it out of the house and drop it off at the donation site. But - if you leave the box by the door and you (and other family members) go through the box and take things back out - then it hasn't served any purpose. Once the box is full (or even before if you can't stop yourself from taking things back) - put it in your car - and immediately drive it to the donation site.

4) Second guessing yourself. This is where making a list of questions to ask yourself comes in handy. For some people - when they touch an item - even though they have not used the item in years - all of a sudden they "need it" or "want it" or "can use it". "Be strong!". You haven't used the item in a while and maybe you didn't even realize you still had it - so let it go. If you really do "need" the item later down the road - you can probably buy it again. But really, what is the chance of that?

5) Not having a regular decluttering routine. Decluttering is not a "once and done" process. As your life changes (age or interests change....) - the things that you used to use (or wear or do...) just don't fit into your "current" life. And that's the key word "current". Having a set decluttering routine - whether it's once a season or once a year - is crucial in maintaing a clutter free and stress free home.

6) But it's worth money! Really? To whom? Probably only to you. Let's get serious. We all think that our "stuff" is valuable. It's probably not. Sorry! And once you have bought the item - you are not going to recoup your cost. So holding on to an item that you don't use isn't saving money or stopping you from losing money - you already spent the money. And thinking that you are going to sell it and make a lot of money - isn't realistic. Think about the time you have to spend taking pictures and posting it online - or setting up and having a garage sale. How valuable is your time - versus making $20 or $50 - if you have to sit at a garage sale for the entire day? Donate the item and you are usually much better off.

Decluttering is an ongoing process - that will keep your home clutter free - so that you can live the life you have now!

Less Clutter = Less Stress SM in your home, your business and your life

<span face=""Calibri",sans-serif" style="mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;">

Organizational Consulting Services

http://www.organizationalconsultingservices.com
.

Visit our Life & Business Coaching website: North By Northwest
*** check out the Products tab for self-paced workshops, planners and more....
ProfessionalOrganizerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684273623662923765noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888965899579431958.post-51535446239381868152023-10-01T00:00:00.000-07:002023-10-01T00:00:00.126-07:00Things To Add to Your Daily Routine to Be More Productive

Daily routines are an
important tool for those that are seeking to increase their productivity. By taking the time to establish a daily
routine, you can set yourself up for success by ensuring that you are mentally
prepared for the day ahead. One of the most important aspects of a daily
routine is setting aside time for self-care. By taking care of yourself first,
you will be in a better position to take on the tasks of the day.

Having any sort of routine
will help improve productivity, but to really maximize your efforts, here are a
few things you might want to add to your regime.

Choose 3 Must-Do Tasks for
the Day

Setting your intention and
tone for the day is a major goal of any productive morning ritual. Do you want
to be focused or scattered? Are you going in with a plan or merely reacting to
others' actions?

The greatest approach to
being more productive throughout the day is to control the story. And one of
the simplest approaches to do this is to begin your day by defining your Most
Important Tasks (MITs). These are the top 2-3 things you want to be sure you
get done that day. Writing these MITs down at the beginning of the day will
help give you a clear picture of what having a successful day entail.

Stay Focused on Your Goals
with Journaling

Journaling isn’t just for
therapy purposes. In fact, writing and reflecting on your goals, feelings, and
dreams can improve anyone's mood and help us perform better on work tasks.

When we have an
opportunity to reflect on what we've done, we get a boost in self-confidence.
Seeing what we've accomplished helps us feel like we can do more things. Which
in turn helps provide motivation and drive for future tasks.

Meditate To Prepare for
the Day

You can't always
anticipate what the day will bring. However, incorporating a daily meditation
practice into your routine helps you deal with challenges in a more effective
and peaceful manner.

It's critical to start
small if you're new to meditation. Consistency is more important than intensity
at the outset. Even simply sitting in a peaceful place with your eyes closed
for a few minutes and focusing on your breath may be enough to get you started.

Schedule Plenty of Breaks

If you continue to work
when your body needs downtime, it draws on your energy reserves to keep going.
This means that your body must release stress hormones to provide you with a
boost of energy.

A better answer is to take
breaks when you need them. Listen to your body and schedule regular breaks away
from your screen at least every 90 minutes.

If you want to make the
most of these breaks, take a walk outside and try to spend some time in nature,
which have both been found to rapidly help us rejuvenate and recharge our
energy.

Reflect on The Day

It's all too easy to wind
down with Netflix at the end of the day and "relax." Unfortunately,
the human brain does not work in such a manner. Instead, when left unresolved,
ideas and feelings linger and spring up at inconvenient moments (like when
you're trying to fall asleep!).

A personal debrief can
help with alleviating work-related stress. It is especially beneficial when it
focuses on your triumphs and the good things that happened to you. This
technique can even alter the way you look at your days and prevent you from
getting dragged into negative thinking. This does not need to be a long
document; you can do something as simple as making a list of three awesome
things that you accomplished or experienced during the day.

Most people don’t realize that
being productive is a skill that can be learned. Just like you would work on
your fitness or learn a new language, you can also work on becoming more
productive. Try adding some of the things we shared above into your daily
routine and see how it goes. After a few, you might just be surprised by how
much more productive you can be!

Less Clutter = Less Stress SM in your home, your business and your life

<span face=""Calibri",sans-serif" style="mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;">

Organizational Consulting Services

http://www.organizationalconsultingservices.com
.

Visit our Life & Business Coaching website: North By Northwest
*** check out the Products tab for self-paced workshops, planners and more....

ProfessionalOrganizerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684273623662923765noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888965899579431958.post-45884401462844052542023-09-17T00:00:00.001-07:002023-09-17T00:00:00.141-07:00The Five Most Common Daily Distractions
Distractions can be found in every aspect of our daily lives

track after a distraction - and our phones buzz on average once every 12
minutes. No wonder it's so hard to stay focused! When you really need to focus,
try putting your phone on silent and turning off unnecessary notifications.
Just like with email, set specific times you'll check your phone during the
day. If you find yourself still tempted to check your phone during hours you
need to be focused and productive, you may find it best to leave it in your bag
or even in a completely different room if you work from home.

3. Task-Switching

Task-switching, also known as multitasking, has actually
been found to hinder productivity. Rather than trying to do multiple things at
once, the most productive individuals focus on just one task at a time. If
you've been a multitasker for a long time, you may find it challenging at first
to just do one thing. Meditation can be a great way to retrain your brain to
focus on the task at hand. Working from a prioritized list of tasks and taking
short breaks throughout the day can also be effective ways to boost
productivity.

4. Friends and Family

We all have people in our circles that unfortunately seem
oblivious to the fact that we have our own agenda and things to get done.
Whether it's a chatty coworker at the office or your mom dropping by during the
day because you work from home, setting boundaries will help you stay on track
and avoid unnecessary distractions. Be polite but firm, and if you want, offer
an alternative time and/or place to get together.

5. Getting Distracted by Personal Duties

With so many people now working from home, it can be
tempting to try and do some personal tasks during work downtime. It's best to
set aside work hours for specifically focusing on work, and non-work hours for
personal tasks. If you do choose to complete personal tasks during work hours,
set aside blocks of time and use a timer to keep you focused and on task. Avoid
doing this too often however, because it takes the brain a bit to regain focus
after changing tasks and that time adds up!

The five common distractions we've outlined in this article
can be extremely disruptive to our productivity. However, with a bit of
organization and mindfulness, we can overcome these interruptions and stay on
task. Utilizing the tips we've provided, such as setting aside specific times
for checking emails or responding to texts, focusing on one task at a time, and
taking breaks throughout the day, will help you boost your productivity and
avoid unnecessary distractions.

Less Clutter = Less Stress SM in your home, your business and your life

Organizational Consulting Services

http://www.organizationalconsultingservices.com
.

Visit our Life & Business Coaching website: North By Northwest
*** check out the Products tab for self-paced workshops, planners and more....

ProfessionalOrganizerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684273623662923765noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888965899579431958.post-39563071107898147422023-09-10T00:00:00.001-07:002023-09-10T00:00:00.160-07:00 Tips for Getting Organized So You Can Better Plan Your Day
In order to be productive, it is important to get organized.
This means creating a system where you can easily find what you need when you
need it. It also means setting aside time for the tasks that are most important
to you. A little bit of organization can go a long way in helping you achieve
your goals.

There are several ways you can go about organizing your
tasks and responsibilities, and we've included some below to help you get started.

1. Set goals

Setting attainable goals can help you stay focused and
productive. It's easier to organize your work into manageable tasks when you
set specific goals with steps and a timeline. Be sure to create both short- and
long-term goals to keep yourself on track!

2. Track progress

Tracking your progress is a great way to make sure you are
accomplishing your goals in the timeframe you planned. It's also a really good
way to keep yourself motivated - when you see how much progress you've already made
it's a lot easier to keep going! You can also use progress tracking to help you
figure out what times of the day and week you are the most productive and
schedule your most important tasks for those times in the future.

3. Use a planner

A planner is an excellent way to assess the efficiency of
your work schedule. You can use a planner to track your daily, weekly, and
monthly goals and activities. You're more likely to achieve your objectives and
recall important details when you keep a record of what has been done and what
is coming up in the future.

There are many types of planners (also called agendas). Some
planners have a space for every day, while others are weekly or monthly. Think
about what kind of planner would best suit you and your work. If you work on
your computer often, you could also consider using a digital planner or app.

It doesn't matter if you use a paper planner (yes, they are making a come-back!) or a digital planner - but the secret of being successful is using something to track you goals, to-do lists and your progress.

If it's written down - it will more than likely get done - as opposed to just "thinking that you should do it...".

4. Create to-do lists

To keep up productivity throughout the day, try using a
to-do list. To-do lists are simple yet highly effective lists that may assist
you maintain focus throughout the day. Write down important activities on your
to-do list and organize them by priority.

For example, you could place what you need to accomplish
before the end of the day at the top of your list and what can wait until the
next day at the bottom.

5. Keep a clean environment

You should be able to quickly and easily find everything you
need and want in an organized workplace. This helps your workflow be more
constant. Putting objects back where they belong, keeping personal things
separate from work stuff, and straightening your work area every afternoon are
all examples of keeping a clean environment. A clean workstation makes staying
productive much easier.

Clutter in your workstation is a big distraction. Remove any
thing from your workplace that you don't use on a regular basis. Tidy up your
work area at the end of each day and declutter once a week in order to keep
things clean and organized.

6. Clean up your email

If you’re like most people, your inbox is clogged with
messages. Cleaning up your mail keeps it organized and makes it easier to
locate important messages.

Create labeled folders in your email to manage all of your
messages and filters to automatically organize new emails into their
appropriate folders. Labeling emails helps you stay on top of replies and keeps
important documents together in one location.

The goal of being more organized is to help you work more
productively. When you're able to focus on your tasks and complete them in a
timely manner, you feel better about yourself and your work. There are several
tips listed here that will help you get started with becoming more organized
and productive. Start out trying one or two at a time and see how they work for
you. Remember, there is no one right way to be organized. Do what works best
for you so that you can achieve your goals.

Organizational Consulting Services

http://www.organizationalconsultingservices.com
.

Visit our Life & Business Coaching website: North By Northwest
*** check out the Products tab for self-paced workshops, planners and more....

ProfessionalOrganizerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684273623662923765noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888965899579431958.post-1962088833639372672023-09-03T10:08:00.001-07:002023-09-03T10:08:21.499-07:00 Breaking Bad Habits: Planning for Setbacks
Having a home that is decluttered and
organized takes a lot of work. It starts with a vision of what you want your
home to look like. And then you need to create a plan on how to get there.

But for a lot of people – it also starts
with breaking their “bad habits” (unlearning them) and learning “new habits”.
Something as simple as not dropping your coat and backpack on the floor when
you walk into your house – and putting it into a designated spot instead.

Once you have decided that you want to
make changes to your home and life – people tend to go full speed ahead –
usually without a plan – and then come to a grinding halt when things don’t go
as fast as they thought they would or they become totally overwhelmed.

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif"> And then the guilt sets in….

Breaking bad habits can be a challenging
and often frustrating process. It can be easy to fall off the wagon and revert
to old habits. But it's vital to remember that setbacks are a normal part of
the process and can actually be an opportunity for growth and improvement.

Here are several steps you can take to
plan for setbacks and get back on track.

Forgive Yourself

It's important to be kind to yourself
when you experience a setback. Don't beat yourself up or dwell on the mistake.
Instead, recognize that it's a normal part of the process and move on.

Take a Break

Sometimes a setback happens just because
you’re overworking yourself. Often you can put things right by going for a walk,
or working on something else and coming back to the issue with a clear mind.
Planning for frequent breaks will help you minimize the number of setbacks you
experience.

Evaluate What Happened

Take some time to reflect on what led to
the setback. For example, did you have a particularly stressful day that made
it harder to stick to your habits? Did you get caught up in a social situation
that made it difficult to resist temptation? Understanding the root cause and
triggers surrounding the setback will help you develop strategies to prevent it
from happening again.

Set Specific and
Achievable Goals

Clear goals keep you focused and
motivated as you overcome setbacks. Be sure to set goals that are specific,
measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART).

Be Flexible and
Adaptable

Setbacks are a normal part of life. It’s
vitally important to be flexible and adaptable in the face of them. If
something isn't working, be willing to adjust your plan and try something new.

Find Healthy Coping
Mechanisms

Stress majorly contributes to setbacks,
so it's imperative to find healthy ways to manage it. Choose healthy options
that are proven to work, like exercise, meditation, or talking to a therapist.

Restart

Don't let a setback discourage or derail
your progress entirely. Instead, use it as an opportunity to start fresh. Set a
new goal and make a plan to achieve it. Don't worry about how long it will take
– just focus on taking small steps in the right direction.

Seek Support

It is helpful to have someone to talk to
when trying to break a bad habit. A friend or family member who is supportive
and understanding can encourage and help you stay motivated. You can also
consider joining a support group or working with a coach or therapist to help
you overcome your challenges.

Stay Positive

Getting discouraged during a setback is
common, but staying positive and focusing on your progress is important.
Remember that change takes time, and it's okay to have setbacks along the way.

Planning for setbacks is an important
part of breaking bad habits. You can overcome setbacks and progress towards
your goals by forgiving yourself, evaluating what happened, restarting, and
seeking support. So don't get discouraged – keep moving forward, and you’ll
live a better life through positive habits sooner than you think.

How much is enough?

Do we really need 50 pairs of jeans? Or 50 pairs of shoes? Or 100 shirts? Or every new toy that comes on the market?

How many toys can a child play with at once? How many of their toys do kids actually even play with - once the novelty wears off?

What percentage of your clothes do you actually wear? Be honest! Most people only wear about 20 % of their clothes. A lot of people have clothes in their closet that still have the tags on them. Or if the tags are off the clothes - they still haven't worn them.

For a lot of people it's the "thrill of the hunt" - the "high of the buy". And then they quickly forget about their purchase.

Look around your home. What percentage of the things in your home do you actually use - on a consistent basis?

How much of the stuff is just "taking up space"?

Try going from room to room - and quickly look at the items in the room - and if you haven't used the item in a long time (or don't even remember having it) - maybe it's time to move it into the "donate" box (everyone has one - right?).

You might be surprised how quickly that box fills up!

Before you take out your credit card and buy more "stuff" - take a step back and think "do I really need this" and "do I have a specific place to put this". If the answer is "not really" - put that credit card back in your wallet and walk out of that store!

Having too much stuff in your home doesn't create a sense of calm. Your home should feel peaceful.

Clutter is noisy - so don't add more clutter to your home! Keeping up with email is a never ending challenge.

A lot of people like to enter contests so that they can win money or houses or all kinds of great prizes. Some people sign up to receive email from various Blogs. Some people sign up to receive notices from stores about new merchandise or sales. It all adds up to getting inundated with emails and special offers.

And once you sign up for one thing - it seems to multiple the amount of emails you get.

The take away for all of this is - "be careful what you sign up for". If you just "have to" enter all of these contests and get on store mailing lists - maybe consider creating an email account specifically for that purpose. This will help separate out the "junk / store email list" emails - from personal emails.

If you are not interested in those contests / stores / Blogs - anymore - unsubscribe from their list.

Make it a habit to delete your emails after you have read them or dealt with them.

If you have hundreds (or thousands) of emails in your Inbox - try to set aside a 10 miinutes a day and delete as many emails as you can. Or set up a certain number of emails to delete each day - for example - "deleting 20 emails a day". It can be overwhelming to think about your hundreds (or thousands) of emails - but if you delete a few each day - your Inbox will be a lot less overwhelming.

And after you are done with that.....don't forget to delete the emails in your "Sent" box also!

Less Clutter = Less Stress SM in your home, your business and your life

<span face=""Calibri",sans-serif" style="mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;">

Organizational Consulting Services

http://www.organizationalconsultingservices.com
.

Visit our Life & Business Coaching website: North By Northwest
*** check out the Products tab for self-paced workshops, planners and more....

ProfessionalOrganizerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684273623662923765noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888965899579431958.post-61157788116423378072023-05-17T01:00:00.000-07:002023-05-17T01:00:00.152-07:00Simplify Your Life

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif" style="font-size: 16pt;">How
Living Simply Can Improve Your Life

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">Are you feeling overwhelmed by the fast
pace and complexity of modern life? Maybe it's time to embrace a simpler
lifestyle. Adopting a minimalist approach offers numerous benefits for your
mental and emotional wellbeing and your overall life satisfaction.

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">Studies show that simplifying your life
is the key to leading a more content and fulfilled lifestyle. Living simply
allows you to cultivate mindfulness. It also reduces distractions, provides
mental clarity, and puts you back in touch with your authentic self without the
clutter of external influences.

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">Let’s explore several compelling reasons
why living simply can truly improve your life.

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif" style="font-size: 14pt;">Boost Your Mental

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">When you declutter your living space and
reduce the number of possessions you own, you also clear your mind. Less
clutter in your surroundings leads to less chaos in your thoughts, allowing you
to think more clearly and make better decisions.

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif" style="font-size: 14pt;">Save Time and Energy

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">Simplifying your life means eliminating
unnecessary tasks and focusing on what truly matters. By prioritizing your time
and energy, you create more space for activities that bring you joy and
fulfillment. This leads to a more efficient and satisfying daily routine.

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif" style="font-size: 14pt;">Reduce Stress and

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">A life full of clutter, commitments, and
distractions is a breeding ground for stress and anxiety. Streamlining your
life and focusing on what's essential reduces the sources of stress and
anxiety, allowing you to find inner peace and tranquility.

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif" style="font-size: 14pt;">Improve Your Financial

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">Embracing a simpler lifestyle often
means cutting down on excessive spending and consumerism. With fewer material
possessions to maintain and a focus on frugal living, you can save money, pay
off debts, and create a more secure financial future.

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif" style="font-size: 14pt;">Enhance Your

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">When you prioritize simplicity, you'll
naturally have more time and energy to dedicate to the people you love. Focusing
on meaningful connections instead of material possessions strengthens your
relationships and creates lasting memories with your loved ones.

<span face=""Arial",sans-serif">

being more eco-conscious. When you consume less, reusing and repurposing items
while embracing a minimalist mindset, it significantly reduces your
environmental footprint and contributes to a healthier planet.

It makes people feel like they have accomplished an impossible task (for some it is) and it gives them the motivation to do things they never thought they could.

And then comes the question - "what to do with the stuff..."?

There are a lot of donation centers and resale shops in most cities. For some people, giving their donated items to the "right" organization - one they feel aligns with their values - is very important. For others, they just want it out of their home and the nearest donation center will do just fine.

A question that came up in one of my classes was "what can I do with magazines, besides recycling them"? And then we expanded it to "books and board games".

So we made a list:

Schools

Hospitals

Assisted living centers

Nursing homes

Senior centers

Retirement homes

Libraries

YMCA

Coffee shops

Breweries

Homeless shelters

Churches

They could all use the magazines, books and board games - to keep people entertained and to have a reason to socialize. Bring out a board game and people will come together. Magazines and books will keep people from getting bored when you're waiting in the hospital. Being able to read magazines that you didn't have to pay for - priceless!

So pass on the magazines, books and games - and let someone else enjoy them!

It's a win for everyone!

Less Clutter = Less Stress SM in your home, your business and your life

Organizational Consulting Services

http://www.organizationalconsultingservices.com
.

Visit our Life & Business Coaching website: North By Northwest
*** check out the Products tab for self-paced workshops, planners and more....
ProfessionalOrganizerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03684273623662923765noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6888965899579431958.post-61347727541436305722023-04-26T07:13:00.000-07:002023-04-26T07:13:35.797-07:00Organizing Ideas for your Kitchen

Organizing small spaces is always a challenge.
